Card Games Are Serious Business

Fri Nov 20, 2009, 3:39 PM
I really hate looking at the same journal for long periods of time. So to update...my newest re-obsession is Yu-Gi-Oh! That’s right. You heard me. Yu-Gi-Oh.

And it’s mostly thanks to Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series (Ishizu was right). Yes, I know I am behind the times (the internet times, at least). But the point is it's hilarious and brilliant. The nice thing about finding something late is you get to gorge yourself on it as much as you want, without having to wait for pesky updates. But then you catch up, and you wish you hadn’t gone as fast. That’s how it was with One Piece. I read the first 450 or so chapters within a few months, which had taken almost 10 years to write. And then I caught up, and now I get to wait with anticipation from week to week, just like everyone else. Still, it’s fine, and YGOTAS is so re-watchable. They even references Gummi Bears! And a whole bunch of other obscure references from childhoods past and did I mention it's awesome? If for some reason you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and start here: [link]

So all this YGO nonsense has made me interested in watching the show again, and then I started reading about the differences between the dubbed version and the original Japanese. I had no idea there were such major changes! In my defense, I was young and ignorant to the ways of bowdlerization ;p. I just thought the show was cool (hey shut up, I watched Pokemon and Digimon, too…what do you expect?) and it was on TV and it was in English, so this must be the only version of it. But now I feel like I should watch it uncut (just what I need…another thing to waste my life on).

Needless to say, I’ve been drawing a lot of YGO, and hope to post some of the sketches soon. Also, I’ve got a One Piece picture for a contest due next week, so I’m going bust my butt to finish that in time. But fear not, I’ll still be continuing the Mozenrath 25 theme challenge. I actually have two in progress that…well, make me chuckle.
